UPSC stands for the Union Public Service Commission which is responsible to manage, direct, as well as organise the NDA (National Defence Academy) & Naval Academy Examination yearly.The UPSC conducts NDA examination twice in a Year with the name of UPSC NDA/NA I exam and UPSC NDA/NA II exam.The UPSC offer the NDA examination for 12th pass students who pass 12th examination with Physics, Chemistry and mathematics.
UPSC NDA NA Exam Pattern 2017:
The Union Public Service Commission consists NDA examination in 2 parts – UPSC Prelims exam and UPSC Mains exam. NDA examination in two papers first is Mathematics and second is General Ability Test. Both papers consist all the MCQ (Multiple choice questions ) of objective type questions only. The NDA General Ability Test paper is divided into two parts – Part A and Part B. In which, part A has 50 questions of English and part B has 100 questions of General Knowledge (GK).

UPSC NDA NA Syllabus – Mathematics:
The Concept of a set, Venn diagrams, operations on sets, De Morgan’s laws, Cartesian relation, product, equivalence relation. Complex numbers – basic modulus, argument, properties, cube roots of unity. Representation of real numbers on a line, Binary system of numbers, Conversion of a number in decimal system to binary system and vice-versa.
Arithmetic, Harmonic, Geometric progressions. Solution of linear inequations of two variables by graphs. Quadratic equations with real coefficients. Permutation and Combination. Logarithms and their applications. Binomial theorem and its application.
- Matrices and Determinants
Types of operations, matrices on matrices. Basic properties of determinants, Determinant of a matrix. Applications – Solution of a system of linear equations in two or three unknowns by Cramer’s rule and by Matrix Method, Adjoint and inverse of a square matrix.
Trigonometrical ratios, Angles and their measures in degrees and in radians, Trigonometric identities Sum and difference formulae, Inverse trigonometric functions, Multiple and Submultiple angles, Applications – Distance and height, properties of triangles.

- Differential Calculus
Concept of a real valued function – domain, range and graph of a function. Composite functions, onto and inverse, one to one functions. Standard limits, Notion of limit examples. Continuity of functions – algebraic, examples operations on continuous functions. Derivative of function at a geometrical, point and physical interpretation of a derivative applications. - Integral Calculus and Differential Equations

UPSC NDA Syllabus – General Ability Test:
Part A – English Exam Syllabus
The English question paper will be designed to exam the student’s understanding of English and workmanlike use of words. The syllabus covers various aspects like vocabulary, Grammar and usage, comprehension and cohesion in extended text to test the student’s proficiency in English.
Part B – General Knowledge Exam Syllabus
The General Knowledge (GK) question paper on broadly covers the subjects: Chemistry, Physics, General Science, Geography, Current Events, Social Studies.

Out of maximum marks assigned to part ‘B’ of this paper, questions on Sections A, B, C, D, E and F will carry approximately 25%, 15%, 10%, 20%, 20% and 10% weightages respectively.
Intelligence and Personality Test Syllabus
In addition to the interview, the students will be put to Intelligence tests both nonverbal and verbal, designed to assess their basic intelligence. They will also be put to Group Tests such as group planning, group discussions, outdoor group tasks as well as asked to give brief lectures on specified subjects. All these tests are intended to judge the mental calibre of a candidate. UPSC NDA NA Selection Process Details:
Candidates who have done 12th (10+2) examination with Physics, Chemistry and Maths are able to apply online for the UPSC NDA (National Defence Academy) examination 2017. NDA selection procedure is based on the two process, first is Written examination and second is SSB Interview. NDA Selection Process:
UPSC conducts National Defence Academy (NDA) Examination in 2 Stages.
- Written Exam
Written Exam: The written examination will consist in two papers – Mathematics and General Ability Test (English and GK). The Mathematics paper consists 120 questions, conducts for 2 ½ Hours and Maths paper consists maximum 300 marks. The General Ability consists 120 questions, conducts for 2 ½ Hours and General Ability paper consists maximum 600 marks. Both papers in all the subjects will consist of Multiple choice questions only. The Mathematics & Part B of General Ability Test question papers will be set bilingually in English and Hindi.
Interview: Students who will pass in the written examination will be called for Interview which is conducted by Services selection board (SSB). For the Indian Army, Indian Navy Wings and 10 +2 Entry Scheme students need to face Intelligence exam and Personality exam. However, for the Indian Air Force wing the students must have to attend a Pilot Aptitude exam. Therefore, the Interview consists both Intelligence and Personality exam.
Intelligence and Personality Test:
The SSB process consists of 2 stage selection procedure – stage 1st and stage 2nd. However, Only those students are permitted to appear for stage 2nd who clear the stage 1st. Full details are given below:
Stage 1st: This stage includes of OIR (Officer Intelligence Rating) exams are (PP and DT) Picture Perception Description Test. So, candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of combination of performance in the QIR Test as well as PP and DT.
Stage 2nd: This stage comprises of the Interview, Psychology Tests, Group Testing Officer Tasks as well as the Conference. In addition to, these stage 2 exams are held over 4 days.
The singularity of a candidate is judged by 3 different assessors namely – The IOI (Interviewing Officer), GTO (Group Testing Officer) as well as the Psychologist. In addition to, there are no separate consequence for each exam. All the marks are allotted by the assessors only after taking into opinion the candidate’s performance holistically in all exam / test. Along with, all marks for conference are also allocated in the basis of preparatory candidate’s performance in the 3 decision as well as techniques of the Board and all these have similar weightage.
