RRB Junior Engineer Exam 2015 Pattern:
RRB JE written exam consists objective type multiple choice questions. Paper pattern can be check below…
- There will be total of 150 questions.
- Time duration to answer the questions is 2 hours.
- There will be negative marking also. 1/3 marks will be deducted on the wrong answer.
- Technical ability and general science consists 90 questions. While there will be 60 questions from general awareness, general intelligence, reasoning and arithmetic.

General Intelligence & Reasoning: Questions will be asked from analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetic reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning.
Arithmetic: Algebra Basic algebra, polynomials, factors & simplification, Arithmetic Simple & compound interest, shares & dividends, installments, taxation, Ratio & proportion, distance & work, profit & loss, percentage, time, Pipes & Cisterns, Investment, Mensuration, Problem on Ages, etc.. From Data Interpretation Use of Tables and Graphs, Histogram, Pie-chart, Frequency polygon, Bar-diagram, Pictorial Graph etc.
General Awareness: Question will be asked from Indian History, Current Events, Indian Polity, Geography, Economy etc. Focus will be on Current national & International events, banking, sports etc. Finance & Marketing can also be asked in the exam. News related to Rail Budget, Railway, and New Technologies & Reform in Indian Railway.
General Science: Basic Concept of Science (Class 12th standard), Questions will be ask from Daily use science. Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Zoology.
Technical Ability: Questions will be asked from the Subject/ Trade/ Branch select by candidate. For Section Engineer Some Mathematics questions from topics Laplace Transformation, Matrices, Basic Linear Algebra will be asked.
Questions for Technical Ability will be from following Topics of Eligible Trades:-
Civil Engineering: Mechanics, Steel Structures, Structural Analysis, Concrete Structures, Soil Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics, Water requirements, Hydrology, Bridge Construction, Highway Planning, Traffic Engineering, principles and classifications, Importance of surveying, mapping concepts, coordinate system, measurements of distance and directions, map projections, leveling, theodolite traversing, errors and adjustments, plane table surveying, curves, Environmental Engineering, Estimating, Costing and Valuation & Building Materials.
Mainly Focus will be on Construction/ Structure Engineering. Questions ask will be General Civil Engineering Type.
Mechanical Engineering: Engineering Mechanics, Design for static and dynamic loading, Fluid Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Theory of Machines, Heat Transfer, Power Engineering, Steam Tables, Rankine, Thermodynamics, Brayton cycles with regeneration and reheat, I.C. Engines: air-standard Otto, Machining and Machine Tool Operations, Diesel cycles, Metal Casting, Metrology and Inspection. Questions will be asked from basics of these Subjects & beam types.
Electrical Engineering: Basics of Circuits and Measurement Systems, Signals and Systems, Electric Circuits and Fields, Electrical Machines, Electrical and Electronic Measurements, Power Systems, Control Systems, Analog and Digital Electronics, Power Electronics and Drives. In Electrical Engineering Key Subject for RRB exam is Electrical Machines, Basics of circuit & Power Electronics.
Electronics Engineering: Electronic Devices: intrinsic and extrinsic silicon, Energy bands in silicon. Carrier transport in silicon: drift current, diffusion current, mobility, and resistivity. Generation and recombination of carriers. p-n junction diode, BJT, JFET, Zener diode, tunnel diode, MOS, MOSFET, LED, p-I-n and avalanche photo diode, Varactor Diode, Digital Circuits, Signal & Systems, Analog Circuits, Control System & Communication Basics. For Electronics & Communications people focus on Basic & Fundamental Electronics Concept, Signal & Systems, Wireless Communication, Antennas, Arrays, EMFT.
Computers Engineering:- Computer fundamentals & organization; MS Office; C , C++ & Java language; Information systems, DBMS, System programming, Operating systems, UNIX, SAD, Data & Network communication, Web technology, Software Engineering, programming, Computer Networks, Databases, Algorithms.
Instrumentation & Measurement: Basics of Circuits and Measurement Systems, Transducers, Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Mechanical Measurement and Industrial Instrumentation, Signal Systems, Process Control, Measurement System, Control Systems & Instrumentation. Focus will be more on Transducers, Measurement & Control Systems. Signal & Systems can be asked in the RRB exam.
Junior Engineer (IT): Computer fundamentals & organization, MS Office; C , C++ & Java language, Information systems, DBMS, UNIX, System programming, Operating systems, SAD, Data & Network communication, Software Engineering, Web technology & programming, Environment & Pollution Control.
Junior Engineer (Printing Press): Chemistry, Mathematics & Science including Physics, Environment & Pollution Control of class X standard, Printing techniques, Printing materials, Paper & Ink technology, Digital technology & Imaging, Printing surface preparation, Control Application in Printing, Offset Printing, Color science, Flexo & Gravure, Newspaper printing, Basic concepts of Computers.
Environment & Pollution Control: Questions of General Engineering topics of Environment, Type of Pollution, and Pollution Control Methods. Nature of questions is Basie Type.
